Saturday is always the most relished day in the week as far as Teso College Aloet is concerned. The ecstasy begins on Friday after preps, when the weekend mood is rated at 95%. Students stay awake, telling stories and entertaining themselves, until midnight when they retire to their respective beds.
From 6.00am to 9.30am, students are engaged in the general cleaning of the school and their respective dormitories. They then dress up in school uniform ready for the inspection conducted by the teachers on duty, who move around to check on the level of cleanliness and award marks accordingly.
The main hall is packed with students who cheer their respective footballers, or the entire team, until 10:30pm when the Saturday celebrations end and students retire to their respective dormitories.
Indeed a typical Saturday in TCA is a very meritorious day.
At 10:00am, when the “magic bell” is rung for students to go for breakfast, some go for porridge or dry tea, while those considered big spenders buy bread, chapatti and cassava chips at the school selling point, referred to as “Akambetta.”
After breakfast, some students go to the field to play football, volleyball, basketball and cricket, among other games. Others stay behind to have a catnap, and some remain to wash their clothes.
The sounding of the bell for lunch is yet another blissful moment for students, since it is a break from the monotony of posho and beans. It is the day they serve rice and meat or chicken, which is the students’ favorite meal every Saturday.
After lunch, students’ attention shifts to watching Premier League football, which is their most entertaining pastime. The main hall is packed with students who cheer their respective footballers, or the entire team, until 10:30pm when the Saturday celebrations end and students retire to their respective dormitories.
